Hello Bonners!

Please let us know where you are doing your service as well as what you are doing there. What are your goals for the semester?

  1. I am working at the Blue Ridge Wildlife Institute, since I am a Wildlife Rehab major, and also at the Watauga Humane Society. At the Rehab Center we take care of the animals who are being rehabilitated until they are able to be realesed back into the wild. At the Humane Society, I will be doing all kinds of volunteer work, ranging from dog walking, to bathing kittens, to cleaning cages, and so on. My goals as far as working at the rehab center are to learn more about the animals and eventually release as many animals as possible to help them continue their lives out in the wild. At the Society, my goals are to help improve the living environment for the animals in the shelter. I also want to help out with adoption programs so that more of these homeless pets can find a loving family.

  2. I am completing my service hours at the Blue Ridge Wildlife Rehab Center. Here, I am working with injured/sick animals such as song birds, raptors, mammals, and reptiles. I clean, feed, and care for these animals. My goals for this semester include learning a better understanding of animal care, anatomy, and habitual behaviors. I also am determined to see how animal care can contribute to conservation efforts I am already active in.

  3. I'm doing my service at the Watauga Humane Society, same as last year. I am really excited to be going back to that site, because I had such great experiences there last year. Some goals that I have for this semester are to help adopt out as many animals as possible, and to help the staff keep the facility clean, neat, and inviting.

  4. I'm doing my service at the Blue Ridge Wildlife Institute. I'm excited to get back to work at the center since this is where I spent all my time last year learning the ropes. This year I will be able to help the center and its patients better with all the knowledge I gained last year. My goals are to make sure each animal has the proper care they need and to help teach the new incoming class of wildlife rehab students.

  11. This semester I will be volunteering at the Hospitality House in Boone. While there I will be able to participate with soup lunches, food boxes, and front desk work. I will also interact with the adults that are part of the Hospitality House! While I am not volunteering at the Hospitality House, I plan on volunteering at Blazing Saddles. I'm anxious and excited for what the semester will bring. I hope to gain insight and experience!

  13. I am working at the Blue Ridge Wildlife Institute because I am a Wildlife Rehab major. I am learning how to care for sick and injured wildlife including basic care, cleaning the cages, feeding, medications and so on. I truly enjoy working there and look forward to all the time I spend at the center. I especially love all the time I get to spend with the raptors because I hope to some day work with them.

  14. My plans for this semester is to work in the elementary school in Avery County. I want to learn more about becoming a better teacher. I think that Bonner is great because I get to spend time in the elementary school 10 hours a week. I love Bonner because the people are great and supportive and I can't wait to meet the new Bonners and get to know about the old Bonners! Bonner has been really good for me and I can't wait to start going to the elementary school!
